"Enabling Social Inclusion through Digital Inclusion"

Abheda – The Philosophy

Abheda, in Sanskrit means non-existence of difference. It stands for the idea of an all inclusive society by smoothing out differences in socioeconomic status, geographical location, age, gender, religion and casts. Thus believing in the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda the main objective of Abheda Foundation is to spread education among the underprivileged mass because at an operational level Abheda believes that the apparent differences in Indian societies can be smoothed out only through education.

Researching on the present needs of education in West Bengal – to start with – Abheda has found that scarcity of (quality) teachers – particularly in rural areas – is affecting the quality of learning the most although infrastructure at schools has improved to a good extent. Add to that, lack of teaching-learning materials appropriate for the students who lag behind – mostly the underprivileged class. To overcome this Abheda has been promoting and developing innovative digital contents and methods substantially as these can serve a next-best substitute for quality teachers and ineffective material. Since ‘a child learns only what it loves to learn’, we are into developing digital contents which are attractive yet effective. Having firm belief in Swami Vivekananda’s quote “if the poor boy cannot come to education, education must go to him”, Abheda has also taken responsibility to reach out the underprivileged mass through socially-aware partner NGOs. Besides, it opens new schools for administering digital contents and methods to effect ‘Social Inclusion through Digital Inclusion‘.
